First, I have to say, I have been a faithful and grateful listener of your program from the beginning of your old time radio podcasts. Thank you so much for all you have done, and do, to educate and entertain your listeners.

Now, in regards to your past comments about the term “just the facts, ma’am” on the radio Dragnet series. You had mentioned at one time that the term did not originate on the Dragnet series because Joe Friday never actually made that statement – that it had been stated by Dan Aykroyd’s portrayal of Sgt. Joe Friday in 1987. Well, in a garage sale last summer, I purchased an old paperback – “Anatomy of a Murder” by Robert Traver printed in 1959 (which was also made into a motion picture starring Jimmy Stewart that same year) and have just started reading it. In chapter 3, I came across the following:

“I see. Is it your first marriage?” The conversation was going fairly like a cablegram.
    “No.”
“Suppose you tell me the matrimonial score and save time. Like Sergeant Friday, all I want are the facts, man.”….

The book was a #1 Bestseller and the movie won several awards. I’m assuming that we can probably blame Mr. Traver for coming up with the “just the facts…” line almost 30 years before the new Dragnet movie came out. Hope this helps to clarify things. Again, thank you for all you do.

    Take care,

    Mona
