I apologize for being behind in my listening, but I would like to share my experience with a bar that cashed paychecks. In the 1980’s I lived in the small town of Zortman, Montana and worked at a mine. The nearest bank was just over an hour away in Malta and there was no option of direct deposit and we were paid weekly. The owner of the bar/cafe in town would go to Malta every Thursday and bring back $50,000 to cash people’s paychecks, which is about $120,000 in today’s money. His security system was a heavy safe and a shotgun underneath the bar. I was single then and would have my friend’s wife deposit my check when she drove into Malta to deposit her husband’s check, but I would use the bar as an ATM, as there was no ATM in town, and cash a check for $100 occasionally to have cash in my pocket. That bar did a phenomenal business, partially because many people in the bar had a whole week’s pay in their pocket.
