I have to confess that the written description of this episode sounded a bit off to me, specifically that the man called his insurance company to “insure” that his policy was in effect. Although some would argue that this is grammatically correct, the common standard usage would be to say that the man called to *ensure* that his policy was in effect (or to be *assured* of that fact.
