Happy Winter Solstice, Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!
If I could afford it I would show my appreciation financially. I hope this has been a good year for you, your family, and your business(es). The quality and quantity of your work is certainly deserving of payment.
I want to tell you how grateful I am for all the hours of research and the years of work you’ve put into producing all the shows of yours I follow.
I’ve lost count but I enjoy the variety and curation of the “old time” radio shows that you (and others) have rebroadcast to my “space age” Apple Podcasts. It’s nothing short of a miracle so many shows survived through time, in some cases a century.
I’m amazed that, through decades of extraordinary effort by a dedicated fan base of people like you, thousands of old episodes have found a new audience.
I was a Kennedy kid, born in ‘62, so radio shows were dead by the time I was coming up, but I remember my dad talking about listening to radio shows when he was a kid when the radio, comic strips, and Saturday morning matinees were their mass media.
I don’t know the timeline of the body of your work but I’ve listened to everything from the early Superman, and the numerous detective shows, to the new offerings like Snack Wagon, and the branching out into a variety of genres like Adventure.
Not music, talk, nor white noise help me sleep. Old time classics are a godsend. They’re the only thing that calm the squirrels in my head. Ha! It takes several nights to get through just one episode, fast forwarding to pickup where I dozed off.
I tend to go in streaks of different shows. In the beginning I binged on the detectives like Johnny Dollar, Richard Diamond, Nick Carter, etc. I’m glad you branched out into genres like adventure, comedy, and variety shows.
Currently, my goto shows from you and others are (in no particular order): Superman, the Adventure shows, Whitehall, Sherlock Holmes, Jack Benny, Duffy’s Tavern, Charlie Chan, some Snack Wagon episodes, and almost anything British. The list goes on. I’m hoping you do for comedy and sci-fi what you’ve done for detectives.
Since I’m heaping praise, it’s no exaggeration to say that no one does old time radio better than you. I sincerely wish I could afford more than praise. Even at a dollar an episode it would probably still be cheaper than a sleeping pill! lol
I’m a small businessman who doesn’t take a salary. I dropped cable, streaming, satellite-radio, movies, any entertainment that cost money, in order to follow my dream and build a private dog park for my late dog Buddy. The park celebrated its second anniversary in August.
I bet you agree with me that the old saying is true, “if you do what you love, you don’t work another day in your life.“ Some days are hard but my hardest day is better than the easiest day working for someone else.
To brag on you, the obvious research you put into your intros and outros, and the high quality production value show you have a passion for what you do year after year. You have my respect and admiration for the high quality of such a large body of work.
I have to say I’m amused when you read the comments of listeners who complain about the voice of the presenter! Lmao! It reminds me of people reading “mean tweets.”
Finally, my heartfelt gratitude goes out to the Patreon supporters who make it possible for you to provide for your family and continue to provide excellent programs free of charge for deadbeats like me! If I win millions in the lottery, I promise to give you a dollar for every episode you’ve ever published. Ha!
Regards, Michael G.
