The Frake family—father Abel, mother Melissa (Gene and Kathleen Lockhart), and their nearly grown children Margie (June Lockhart) and Wayne (Dick Van Patten)—travel to the Iowa State Fair seeking ribbons, excitement, and perhaps just a touch of wonder beyond their everyday routines.
