{"id":11024,"date":"2014-09-27T00:10:10","date_gmt":"2014-09-27T06:10:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greatdetectives.net\/detectives\/?p=11024"},"modified":"2014-09-26T17:11:49","modified_gmt":"2014-09-26T23:11:49","slug":"telefilm-review-big","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greatdetectives.net\/detectives\/telefilm-review-big\/","title":{"rendered":"Telefilm Review: The Big Four"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Big Four was described by Mark Gatiss, the writer who was charged with adapting it for television as, an \u201calmost unadaptable mess.\u201d Massive restructuring was required and much of the book&#8217;s plot was cut for the telefilm, but what remained was a solid and enjoyable mystery.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the story feels like a bit of political thriller as a series of strange deaths occur, and a muckraking reporter believe it\u2019s tied in to an international conspiracy known as \u201cThe Big Four\u201d which also appears connected to the Peace Party. The solution takes the story in a different direction and I didn\u2019t enjoy the last twenty minutes as much as what came before. But even that had its moments. My favorite was when the killer through Poirot\u2019s comments that the killer was \u201ctheatrical\u201d right back at the Belgian detective who does one of his most theatrical denouements ever.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, this was a very enjoyable story.
