What caught my ear in “Spellbound” was the electronic musical opening.
That was a Theremin, the instrument you play without touching, merely by
waving your hands over the antennae.
I reckon we heard a recording and they didn’t drag Samuel Hoffman into the studio for a Theremin solo. The link below has an article on “The Spellbound Suite”.

The Pavek Museum in Minnesota has a working Theremin on display — I try to get out there at least once a year to practice. I can kinda play a recognizable version of “The Swan”.
