Adam, you NAILED these shows in your incisive comments! I am glad to see that I'm not the only one who is at turns perturbed, appalled, or merely stupefied by these cheesy "post-modern recreations". In the early sixties, my high school English teacher -- who wrote embarrassing psychological pseudo self portrait novels that were a cross between Philip Roth and Salinger -- told me to quit reading Doyle, whose Sherlock Holmes stories were 'racist, pretentious, contrived claptrap'. Whereas the REAL Sherlock Holmes canon has stood the test of time; my teacher remains (maybe there IS a just God!) unpublished...

The UK of today must be a miserable place, where the "educated" public are ashamed of their past. We former rebellious colonists, thankfully, don't have to feel that way.
