This is an interesting episode — made more so by the fact that it is nearly the same as the “Richard Diamond, Private Detective” story entitled “Eighty Thousand Dollars In Jewels” (even though they referred to it as “eight hundred thousand” in the dialogue). The Diamond version, if I am not mistaken, aired on 14 June 1950, predating the YTJD “remake.”
One has to wonder how many Radio Listeners of 60 years ago noticed the “coincidence” where the original broadcasts were over 15 months apart.
So, I make a comment on this episode and not 24 hours later, I discover yet another “coincidence”! While listening to “Richard Diamond 50-08-23 (061) The Evans Farmer Case” I realize that this “Diamond” is essentially the same story, rebroadcast not quite a year later, as “Yours Truly Johny Dollar 51-06-09 George Farmer Matter.”
Odd how things seemed to “migrate” from NBC to CBS over the course of a year
