I have every one of the Monk novels through and including "Mr. Monk in Trouble" and while I enjoy them immensely, I find that I agree with most of your criticisms about how the characters are depicted. I've even one more to add. Goldberg consistently (through all but the very most recent novels) gets Julie's age wrong. He seems to be using what I assume was the actress's age when she started out in the role (perhaps using a character bible?), and forgets that we're looking at Monk from at least a few years later than that.
