He ran a speakeasy for a couple years during Prohibition. Prior to getting into Vaudeville he played a piano in quite a few dives but remained unquestionably free of corruption. Sounds you like you had some interesting high school days.

the son of Gyp deCarlo, a minor New Jersey mobster now best known
as the villain in the musical Jersey Boys. I remember sleeping over his
house one night and on the bedstand was a copy of Inka-Dinka-Doo,
autographed by the Schnozzola himself, with a personalized note to Gyp.

I came down to breakfast the next morning with an increased respect
for Mr. Durante, who I’d only known as the guy who “kicked the bucket”
in IAMMMMW.

PS: Another time I came down to breakfast early and Mary Ann Valli
(Frankie’s ex-) made me bacon and eggs in a loose-fitting bathrobe,
a memory I will treasure all my days.
