The Great Detectives of Old Time Radio The great ones are back in action.

The Big List of Detective Old Time Radio Shows

I get asked a lot about what shows we're going to play as replacements in the line up become necessary, so I decided to make a list of the shows I would like to do, the shows I'm not going to do and those I'm not sure about. If there's another detective show that's not on the list, please leave it in the comments or call the show at 208-991-GR8D (4783).

The only shows that I will consider are either American made shows or shows made for American syndication that were produced before February 15, 1972.

  1. I also vote in favor of Casey Crime Photographer (I’m sure you know it has a few other titles as well.) You said today that it helps you to have listeners comment. There are a few others under that same catagory that I also like, but I’m very groggy at the moment and need to make sure I don’t mix up titles before I say which ones. I’ll let you know which I liked later, if you want. Thanks for the great job you do!

  2. I have to say no to Inspector Thorne. I liked the first few episodes I heard but the more I hear the less I like the show. The writers tend to reintroduce the characters constantly. It is as if they don’t trust the listener to remember who is who, even the leads. The use of full names and occupations takes up at least a third of the dialouge! “Mrs. Smith, did you know the murdered man, banker Ted Jones?” Mr. Keen, Tracer of Lost Persons, is bad for this as well.
Also every so often they seem to use visual clues when solving a crime. The one that comes to mind is the mention of a butter dish as a source of anger for one character yet it was not mentioned in the scene where Inspector Thorne determined who the murderer was, only in his recap. This has happened on more than one occasion.
    Sorry for the rant!
    Thanks! Love the show.

  3. Please consider running Mr. District Attorney, Mr. Keen Tracer of Lost Persons and Dangerous Assignment all are great shows. I am an app user and am a avid podcast user. Thanks for the podcasts.

  4. Hi Adam,
Have you considred “Walk Softly, Peter Troy”? I found it on one of the otr download sites. It was made in South Africa and aired in England. Don’t know whether it aired in the States but, having listened to it, it seems to fit well with the other shows on your list.

  5. Why not Bulldog Drummond? You must have a reason but I have never heard the radio show so I cannot even guess what it might be. Enlighten us, please. What’s wrong with the show?

  6. I would vote for Phillip Marlowe and Sam Spade next they are awesome and I think the best of what you have planned for the rest of this season

    thanks

  7. I was hoping you could do an episode of “the lions eye” Love the podcasts! all the best, Ron.
